Kay Boydston
Kay started her journey in animal training in her teens, as a 4-H horse member, going on to earn a B.S. in Animal Science and becoming a certified Hearing Ear Dog trainer. She continued her passion for animals by working in management in veterinary medicine for over 30 years.
The next important step in her journey included obedience with her two Australian Shepherd mixes, then discovering dog agility and clicker training in the early 90’s. Kay became a founding member and head instructor of Rogue Canine Agility, working with many different breeds. Following that, she taught agility privately for a few years.
Her next leap in the dog training path came when she recognized agility was not a good match for her Australian Shepherd, Spirit. While Kay never planned to compete in Rally-FrEe, nor planned to perform Musical Freestyle, she found Spirit didn’t suffer as much anxiety in the Rally-FrEe atmosphere. This combined with ability to do video events led her to compete in Rally-FrEe with Spirit.
Rally-FrEe is the foundation sport for canine Musical Freestyle, and she had so much fun doing Rally-FrEe with her dog and her training partners, she braved the musical freestyle venue to do a pairs routine and has never looked back.
Her next phase is professionally teaching Rally-FrEe and Musical Freestyle at K9 Venues.
